What is a Slide-Rule Bezel?

I must admit that I had no idea what a slide-rule bezel was before I started learning about watches.  The slide-rule bezel makes up the parts of the eco-drive watch that allows you to perform simple calculations such as rate-time, and distance calculations.  The slide-rule mechanism is made up of three parts:  the outer ring is the only moving part and rotates in both directions, the inner ring is stationary, and the inside ring is used to display hours for rate-time and distance calculations.

The simplest calculations that you can do with the slide-rule are conversions.  You can convert distances and volumes using the inner and outer rings.  To do date-time and distance calculations you will need to use all 3 rings in combination to find the answers.

Citizen Eco-Drive watches are ecologically friendly because they use natural and artificial light for power.  The eco-drive watch will never need a battery.  It has a max power reserve of 180 days, and up to 30 months with the power save feature.  It will charge from stop to max in 150 hours under incandescent light, outdoors and cloudy in 60 hours, and when outdoors and sunny it will charge completely in 20 hours from stop.

The Citizen JY0000-53E  Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T Watch is available for a retail price of $650.00, but you really shoudn’t have to pay more than $520.00 for this watch.  The cheapest that I have seen this watch is on Amazon.com where they regularly sell this watch for under $490.

Complaints?

I really found very few complaints for this watch on the consumer sites that I found around the net.  One person did express a slight annoyance over the fact that you have to pull out the crown to adjust some of the settings.  Also some expressed concern over the weight of the watch.
